The Sin of Liking the Good Things People Say About You

by Zecharias E. Castro

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

1Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

This sin is definitely the most encouraged and commonly committed crime against God human beings are prone to do. As an educator I’ve come across, more times than a care to mention, teens who get mad, bend out of shape or stressed out because of some bad thing people said about them.

The first thing I tell them is this happens because they love, cherished and look forward to commit the sin of liking the good things people say about you.

The advice most adults give to ignore or don’t pay attention to the bad things people say just shows how ignorant they are and how much they’ve grown in that ignorance.

From the start of his ministry right after Jesus pronounced the BLESSED-DUDES, this is my name for what people called BEATITUDES, the firs thing He told us to do for the honor, fame and accreditation of our Maker. Matthew 5:16. Was addressing the most common misuse of the way we use words.

We are suppose to hear and be watchful of what people say to make sure God is acknowledged, recognized, appreciated and thanked for whatever it is we get to accomplish.

You never hear people acknowledging, recognizing, appreciating or thanking a particular appliance or vehicle for the magnificent way in which it performs. They send their thanks and their letters of appreciations to the makers to the manufacturers.

When it comes to the things man makes(i.e. our technology the work of our hands) we make sure to thank man and write our appreciation notes or even our complaints to man and not to the things man has made. But when it COMES TO THE THINGS GOD MAKES(i.e. us men one of the many works of His hands), we make sure to thanked, give our appreciation or our complaint to the thing made by God(i.e. us men) and opt to disregard, disrespect and disparage our Maker. When kindness was shown to Paul by the Phillipians, Paul said, he thanked God for what they’ve done for him.

So if you like the good things people say. Make sure what they say acknowledges, appreciates and thanks God for all He has made you capable of doing. That way when people say bad things about you, you’ll be able to thanked God and rejoice in Him for all the things He made you capable of doing, regardless of people trying to belittled you. You will understand then, and most likely pitied them and pray for them because in their blind ignorance they are insulting, offending and instigating the wrath of God by not appreciating the Apple of His eye, which is His Son in you The Hope of Glory. You’ll know then to pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you. And thus never to be like one of them.
